Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 September 2026

Rocket DNS is an app for Mac, iPhone and iPad that encrypts your DNS queries and blocks ads, trackers and telemetry. Privacy is the entire point of the app, so this policy is short and specific.

No data collection

We do not collect, store, sell or transmit your DNS queries, browsing history or personal information. Rocket DNS contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs and no tracking code of any kind. The app's Apple privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data types.

No account

Rocket DNS has no sign-up, no login and no account. We have no user records because there are no users to record.

We run no servers

Rocket DNS does not route your traffic through any server we operate. We run no VPN servers, no proxy servers and no DNS resolvers. Your queries are encrypted on your own device and sent to the public resolver you choose. We never see them.

Why the app asks to add a VPN configuration

On iPhone and iPad, changing how every app resolves domain names — rather than just your browser — is only possible through Apple's Network Extension system, which iOS presents as a VPN configuration. Rocket DNS uses that mechanism to encrypt DNS locally on your device.

This means Rocket DNS is not a VPN service, even though iOS asks for VPN permission. No traffic is sent to us, because we operate nothing for it to be sent to. Your other traffic is not inspected, recorded or redirected; it leaves your device straight to its destination as it always did.

Your chosen resolver

The resolver you select is an independent third party, and it necessarily sees the domains you look up. Each operator handles that data under their own privacy policy, and their practices vary — some log queries, some do not. Rocket DNS ships a catalogue of privacy-focused resolvers drawn from the community-maintained DNSCrypt public-resolvers list, but we do not operate, audit or endorse any of them. Choose a resolver you trust, and read its policy.

Settings stay on your device

Your selected resolver, blocking categories and bypass list are stored locally on your own device. They are not transmitted to us.

Block lists

Blocking is performed locally on your device against a list bundled with the app. Rocket DNS does not report which domains were blocked, or to whom.

The connections the app does make

So that this policy is complete, these are every request the app makes other than your DNS queries. None of them carries information about you.

We operate none of these services.

The system DNS profile

To protect every app on your device, Rocket DNS installs a system DNS configuration, which macOS and iOS both require you to approve explicitly. It only changes how domain names are resolved. It grants us no access to your device or your data, and it is removed when you uninstall the app.

Diagnostics you choose to send

The app keeps a small technical log of the tunnel starting, stopping and any errors, so that a connection problem can be diagnosed. It does not record the domains you look up or anything about your browsing. It stays on your device unless you choose to export it and send it to us.

If you email us for support, we receive whatever you choose to include in that email — typically your system version, app version and a description of the problem. We use it solely to answer you, and we do not add you to any mailing list.

Children

Rocket DNS is not directed to children under 13, and collects no data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above.
